st ignatius as defined by st therese

In the Ateneo, we were formed to uphold Magis - doing more for Christ and others - Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. This is with recognition that even in your own darkness, brokenness, and woundedness, God is there. Then in Los Banos, I met Therese of the Child Jesus. She says, "Small things; great love." So I realize, perhaps, more doesn't necessarily mean big or ostentatious. It doesn't have to be garbed. But, more should mean more love, more kindness, more compassion. To do daily tasks with more love. To help as many people with greater smiles. To make sure that you practice your profession or that you do your research ethically and with due diligence having in mind and heart your greater concern for the welfare of others you are serving. To face strangers with greater desire to listen and understand. To recognize that amid all your flaws, imperfections, short-comings, and the filth in your face, you can do more by being and doing with greater love. That in many circumstances, being present with greater love spells a lot of difference. Then my thoughts go back to the prayer for generosity: to serve as You and others deserve, to give without counting the cost. These are tall orders that we can't do alone without grace. So, today and in succeeding days of our lives, allow us, dear God, to do more, to be generous in doing small things with great love. Amen. Happy Feast Day of Saint Therese of Lisieux!
